Avenue Q, a highly successful musical featuring an ensemble of actors and some very adult-minded puppets are premiering at The Esplanade on the 30 Oct 2008.

This collaboration effort is a first for NewUrbanMale.com and a broadway musical. NUM Director's Speech at Launch of GYSB Campaign

Amidst the busy shoppers at Orchard Road yesterday afternoon, something meaningful was about to happen at NewUrbanMale.com@Wheelock Place. The 16 Oct 2008 marks the day when NewUrbanMale.com collaborates with Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore (APB) for the launch of Get Your Sexy Back (GYSB) campaign. This campaign is a community project to encourage youths to drink moderately and Mr. Shenzi Chua, founder and director of NewUrbanMale.com shares his thoughts about this campaign during the launch.

"Throughout these five years of building NewUrbanMale.com , I have the opportunity to work with a lot of young people. We have now about 200 of them in the family.

I do have the chance to come in contact with a great number of youths on a day to day basis. Their ages range between 18 to 24. Most would regard these group of people as 'youths' but I prefer to call them 'young adults'.

Many young people nowadays are constantly facing difficult situations where they have to make a lot of choices. In one hand, it is good to be given options, but when the situation is placed in front of people who may be immature, inexperience and sometimes gullible, they will either abuse it, get confused, or become lost.

The social and peer pressure that young people face nowadays are tremendous. When APB approached myself to design the numtee collection for the programme, I thought about it for a long time, and decided to play a pun on the famous Shakepearean quote “To be or not to be ..” with the t-shirt slogan “Two beers or not two beers. That is the Question”. The collection brings forth the social choices that constantly confront the young adults, and in particular the issue of binge-drinking.

I always share this with the NUMboys. "Not everything in life will get a second chance. So we should all live our lives so that there will not be any regrets.

As I interact with them, I feel a need to share with them what I've learnt over the years. I teach them about responsibility, I teach them about self respect, about how to love themselves, be genuine and sincere.

I count myself lucky. In these five years, I have witnessed a great number of them grow, mature, and become more confident. With that, they go on with their lives knowing what is right and what is wrong and understanding how to balance between the good and the evil.

There are a few occasions when I even learned from them as much as they have from me.

So with my personal experience, I know that young people - the young adults, when given proper guidance and positive influence, will be wise enough to make the right decisions for themselves in their lives.
I hope that through this GYSB campaign, we can achieve all that I have seen and experienced here in newurbanmale.com.

Last but not least, I wish GYSB campaign a great success and I hope many will benefit through the campaign.
